House fire destroys pre Civil War home near Gaston

A very old home, located just outside the town of Gaston was totally destroyed by fire3 Sunday morning. At about 2:29 a.m. Gaston Fire & Rescue was dispatched to a residential structure fire on N.C. 46 Highway just outside of Gaston, where, upon arrival, they found the west side of the home was fully engulfed with flames. No occupants were home at the time of the fire and firefighters contained the blaze within 10 minutes but due to the construction of the antiquated structure, they remained on the scene for over six hours performing overhaul operations. The probable cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, but is unsuspicious in nature. Approximately 20 firefighters from Gaston Fire and& Rescue and Garysburg Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident.
