Washington: Annual event celebrates legacy of first firefighter killed in state

The city of Washington is planning an annual celebration to honor the life and legacy of the first recorded firefighter 'line of duty death.' Ed Peed is the first known firefighter death to happen in our state. He died in 1902. The celebration of his legacy is happening on Saturday, February 17 at 11am at Washington Fire Station #1 on North Market Street in Washington. The event will feature music by the Greenville Public Safety Pipes and Drums and lunch will be provided.
