A Gaston County fire agency will outfit its department in new gear after being selected to receive a prestigious national grant.
The Cherryille Fire Department was one of 40 to receive money from the Georgia-Pacific Bucket Brigade. It got $5,000, money that’ll be used to purchase full-body protective gear.
“We’re elated to get the grant and it’ll be utilized to help the firefighters purchase personal protection equipment,” Cherryville Fire Chief Jeff Cash said.
The money will enable the department to replace three sets of “turnout gear,” the head-to-toe equipment firefighters use to protect themselves.
