Fire investigators are trying to figure out what started a massive overnight house fire in Catawba County. Six different fire departments were called around 2:30 a.m. to the farmhouse on Hot Rod Road, southwest of the town of Catawba. Family members told Channel 9 that the man who lived there heard noises in the house and thought it was being broken into. When he went to investigate, he saw the flames near the bathroom. He was able to make it out safely. Channel 9’s Dave Faherty was the only local reporter on the scene and reported seeing heavy smoke still rising from the house.
