The Person Board of County Commissioners voted 4-1 on Monday to place a referendum on the May 8 primary ballot on whether to raise the local sales tax a quarter cent to support increased funding for the county’s volunteer fire departments.
If voters approve the referendum, the tax would generate between $725,000 and $820,000, in excess of the $524,000 the Fire Chiefs Association has requested.
The formal resolution passed Monday did two things.
