Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune Fire Department responds to the surrounding communities to assist with everything from fires to rescues, on behalf of or in tandem with the Onslow County Fire Department and the City of Jacksonville. Recently, the FESD was called into action as Onslow County requested a specialized technical rescue team to assist their on-scene responders with rescuing a man who was trapped in a grain silo. “This was a technical rescue incident,” said Parker. “There are no preprogrammed formulas to solve a life safety problem of this nature. Each step taken to safely remove the victim was customized to limit human suffering and preserve the farmer’s property.”
