Asheville CrossFit gym members are honoring a fallen hero with a challenging workout to help his family.
Beer City CrossFit and the Asheville Fire Department hosted a fundraiser for the family of Jeff Bowen, the Asheville fire captain who died in the line of duty on July 28, 2011. The co-owner of the gym says it's important to honor those who serve our community.
"I was just talking to Jeff's mom. For me, it's all about the family. She says she loves the fitness community to remember her son," said Jeremy McDonall.
Each person contributes $35 to participate in the annual Bowen memorial, which is held at a different Asheville-area CrossFit gym each year.
