Firefighters battled a massive blaze at a business in Rowan County Wednesday. The fire broke out before 11:30 a.m. at the Holmes Iron & Metal salvage yard in the 600 block of North Long Street in East Spencer. Sources at the scene told WBTV the fire started soon after a man took a van to scrap at the salvage yard. The sources said that van caught fire due to an electrical issue and those flames spread to other vehicles. Smoke could be seen for miles as multiple fire departments responded to the blaze. Lots of loud pops were reported as piles of cars burned. No injuries were reported.
