The Jacksonville Fire Department donated a 1995 fire truck to Coastal Carolina Community College to help students in the Fire and Emergency Services Academy get hands-on training. Jacksonville Fire Chief Jerry Hardison says, "It keeps an excellent pool of people for us to hire. They do an excellent job with the academy here. The people we've hired here, we've hired many from the academy."
The newly donated truck will provide academy students with the opportunity to work with equipment just like they will see in the field.
Hardison says, "The guys can learn about the truck, and it's similar to the ones we use now. So when we train people and bring them onto our organization they've already been on one of our trucks."
