A woman and a dog died in a mobile home fire in Southport early Wednesday morning, according to the Southport Fire Department. Todd Coring, assistant chief at the Southport Fire Department, said the department received the call at 5:44 a.m. while it was at another house fire. The department was the first on the scene and were aided by the closest mutual-aid departments, which were the Sunny Point and Boiling Spring Lakes fire departments. There were approximately 35 to 45 personnel that responded to the blaze. The first call about the fire was made by a person outside the mobile home, located at 610 Anchor Village Lane. When firefighters got the fire under control, they were able to confirm that one person and one dog were still inside and had died, according to Coring.
