A man was found dead on the deck of his house after a fire from a gas grill destroyed it on Wednesday afternoon.
The body was discovered after firefighters responded to a call at 5335 Rogers Road at around 5 p.m., a press release from the Burke County Fire Marshal said. A two-story house was fully involved when firefighters arrived.
The body is believed to belong to the sole occupant of the home, but the name of the person is being withheld pending positive identification by the medical examiner’s office.
The fire was accidental and was caused by a gas grill on the rear deck of the home, Burke County Fire Marshal Mike Willis said.
Firefighters brought the fire under control within 20 minutes and discovered the body during overhaul operations, the release said.
