An unoccupied house at 1701 Old Farmer Road in west Asheboro caught fire early Tuesday morning, resulting in what “could be considered a total loss,” Randolph County Fire Marshal Erik Beard said. No one was injured in the fire. The house has been vacant since its owner died almost a month ago. Samantha Osborne, a neighbor, called to report the fire around 3 a.m. “I had been awake in my bedroom,” Osborne said. “I heard what sounded like a metal trash can being thrown around. … I went to my window and looked outside.” Osborne reported she couldn’t see what was happening from the window, so she went to open her front door. She could see straight over to the house, which she described as “completely engufled in flames.”
