One summer camp is helping girls get outdoors to learn new skills. Camp Ignite is helping high school girls test out some skills it takes to be a firefighter. Teens get to climb a 100-foot aerial ladder, rappel down a tall tower as well as training in science and math. Organizers say there are just 33 female firefighters at C.F.D. The camp has helped them recruit more women. The teens get to climb a 100-foot aerial ladder, rappel down a tall tower as well as training in science and math. It can also help girls think about career options. "Just show them that this job is an option because, most young girls, especially in lower-income communities, have no idea what the fire department looks like," said firefighter Venessa Roy. "It's important to get it to them, especially at a young age. That way they know it's an option."
