State Fire Marshal Mike Causey is teaming with the Durham Fire Department for a smoke alarm canvass. In North Carolina, 91 people have died in fires thus far in 2018. The volunteers will join members of the Durham Fire Department to participate in a statewide smoke alarm canvass. They'll work to install smoke alarms in homes throughout Durham, according to a news release. The release said Causey has organized a teams of volunteers and firefighters to install free smoke alarms in homes across North Carolina. The objective is to prevent deaths caused by home fires.
