A man took his own life after authorities said he intentionally set his house on fire Sunday outside of Tarboro. On Sunday, the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office along with firefighters were called to a large house fire on Cotton Lane outside of Tarboro. Authorities arrived on scene and said they found the house to be fully engulfed by fire. On Monday morning, human remains were located within the residence, authorities said. Detectives called the State Bureau of Investigation for arson investigators. Three agents responded and conducted an investigation. Investigators established that the fire was intentional. Authorities said the remains found inside the residence belong to the homeowner Grady J. Leary. Evidence found on the scene along with the autopsy showed that Leary took his own life. Authorities believed that Leary also set the fires in the house and unattached garage.
