A fire at Sunset Stables on 320 Franklin Drive in Thomasville resulted in the total loss of a home Wednesday and the loss of some animals, according to Kelly Dorsett with the Pilot Fire Department. The fire began just before noon. Dorsett said the fire started in the bedroom and bathroom area. There was a woman in the house when the fire began, but she was safely out of the home by the time firefighters arrived. According to Dorsett, a family member helped get the woman out of the house and attempted to rescue some dogs. He suffered a minor cut on his arm. Because the home was so far back from the road, firefighters had to lay approximately 2,500 feet of hose to combat the fire. Nearly a dozen stations responded. Dorsett said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
