An overnight fire in downtown Raleigh burned at an apartment complex.
Firefighters arrived at the apartment complex located near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Garner Road to put out the fire just after 10 p.m. Sunday.
They were able to quickly contain the fire, but the damage had already been done.
Eight people were displaced by the fire, but nobody was injured.
The fire is being investigated as an accident. The fire started shortly before 9 p.m.
The division chief says more than two dozen firefighters responded to the scene and had the fire out within 15 minutes.
MLK Boulevard near Shaw University, and a major artery into downtown, had to be closed off during this time creating heavy congestion in southern Wake County.
