Christmas came early for the Mills River Fire Department. A handful of students from the elementary school showed up Thursday with gift baskets. The students, who participate in Girls on the Run, wanted to show their appreciation for the service the firefighters do in the community. Firefighters said they were honored to receive the gifts. "Man this is great. You know just the fact that young folks like those girls, the fact that they think of us and honoring us for what little we do, it's just amazing," Mills River fire chief Rick Livingston said. The baskets were filled with all kinds of goodies like bananas and granola bars. The group also delivered baskets to other first responders in the area.
