Retired Fire Chief Fred Hollar was presented with a key to the city and the Order of the Long Leaf Pine award Tuesday evening during the Hickory City Council meeting. Hollar was recognized for his 51 years of service to the citizens of Hickory. The Order of the Long Leaf Pine is presented to individuals who have a proven record of extraordinary service to the state. Contributions to their communities, extra effort in their careers, and many years of service to their organizations are some of the guidelines by which recipients are selected for this award. Mayor Hank Guess also proclaimed Oct. 2 as Chief Fred Hollar Day. Hollar (left) is shown with Guess.
