The Kinston Fire Department is celebrating Fire Prevention Week in their own special way.
Just inside the Kinston Fire Department, students were having the opportunity to experience what first responders go through every day. It's all in the name of safety, too.
Kinston Fire Captain William Barss said this annual event is a positive way to teach hundreds of pre-K through first graders important lessons in fire safety.
"Here the kids can actually touch the equipment, they actually put on the equipment, they can actually spray the fire hose," Barss said.
