Grace United Methodist Church in downtown Wilmington has become ground zero for several Florence recovery efforts.
Food service teams are staging there Thursday through Sunday to send hot meals out to families who need them. Mother Hubbard's Cupboard opened their pantry to help provide food.
Two teams are going door-to-door in the neighborhoods around the church where many still do not have electricity or water.
The church is hosting a Firefighter Disaster Relief Team with the International Firefighters Association Thursday through Sunday. The group includes firefighters from New York to Florida.
“We’re here to help local firefighters, so they can stay at the fire station, serve the community, and not worry about damage to their homes,” said Mark Treglio with the International Firefighters Association.
They’ve helped 60 firefighters so far with minor repairs to secure homes until those firefighters can meet with insurance adjusters.
