Something smells fishy. A town in North Carolina found itself flooded with dead fish as the aftermath from Hurricane Florence continues. The Penderlea Fire Department spent Saturday powerwashing the ocean remnants off the highway after the storm surge and flooded rivers pushed the fish ashore. "Well, we can add 'washing fish off of the interstate' to the long list of interesting things firefighters get to experience," the department wrote on Facebook. "Hurricane Florence caused massive flooding in our area and allowed the fish to travel far from their natural habitat, stranding them on the interstate when waters receded." Officers also warned that the smell "is what it is." Florence has killed at least 44 people since making landfall last week and about 69,000 North Carolina residents have already registered with FEMA for assistance. "Hurricane Florence has deeply wounded our state," Gov. Roy Cooper said Saturday, "wounds that will not fade soon as the flood waters finally recede."
