Firefighters are investigating what sparked a fire this morning at an Eastern Carolina hotel. Jacksonville firefighters were called to the Red Carpet Inn on North Marine Boulevard around 7:10 a.m. The fire was limited to a single room on the top floor of the hotel, according to Assistant Chief Shaun Hayes. The chief says the building was evacuated and the fire was quickly extinguished. Some lanes of Preston Road and Elizabeth Street were closed because of emergency crews.
