A New Town man will serve three years and eight months in prison after tribal authorities say he set fire to a residence with people inside last June. Judge Daniel Hovland sentenced 24-year-old Charles V. Smith, Sr., Thursday on a charge of arson. Investigators say Smith used gasoline to set fire to the residence that had several people inside, including children. He later told investigators that he drunkenly set fire to some garbage near the residence following a fight with the homeowner the day before. There were no injuries in the fire, and a passerby managed to put out the blaze with an extinguisher.
