Five departments responded to a house fire Friday night in rural northwest Washington County. The fire was reported just before 8 p.m. at 25572 County Road 14, which is west of County Road 7 north of Arlington. Winslow Volunteer Fire Department was the first on scene. Arlington, Herman, Hooper and Nickerson firefighters were called for mutual aid, according to Arlington Fire Chief Tom Christensen. Arlington and Herman provided tankers. Washington County sheriff's deputies provided traffic control. The homeowner, who spoke with Capt. Shawn Thallas, said he was working in a detached garage when he heard a popping sound and a bang. The homeowner initially thought a crop duster, which had been flying overhead, had possibly crashed. But he later saw smoke start rolling from the roof of his house.
