The McCook Fire Department, thanks to the quick thinking of an observant citizen, was able to minimize fire damage to an East 11th Street home Monday morning. “Fortunately, we had observant citizens who saw smoke coming from the house and called 911 right away, probably saving a lot of damage,” said Fire Chief Marc Harpham after the incident. Harpham praised the quick response of fire personnel with preventing the fire from doing further damage and also said damage to the structure would have been much worse if the fire had not been found as soon as it was. McCook firefighters were dispatched at 9:34 a.m. and were on the scene within two minutes.
