An overloaded electrical circuit at a home in the Bethany neighborhood caused $100,000 damage early Tuesday morning, fire officials said. The family at 6311 Fairfax Ave. called 911 at 1:18 a.m., when residents awoke to sounding smoke alarms, Lincoln Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Jeremy Gegg said. Fire crews found smoke but couldn't detect any fire in the house in the 45 minutes they were there, Gegg said. Residents told fire crews they had frequent issues with blown electrical breakers so they increased the size of the breakers to reduce the problem, Gegg said. Fire crews warned them of the danger of doing so and instructed them to contact an electrician, he said.
