Prosecutors have charged four Nebraska prisoners, including a convicted murderer from Lincoln, with arson and other felonies in connection with unrest at the Diagnostic and Evaluation Center a year ago. Matthew Pavey, Gage Capone, Patrick Carey and Zachary Mueller each face several felony charges in the April 7, 2017, disturbance at the penal system's intake facility for male prisoners at 3220 W. Van Dorn St. At 7:30 that night, inmates "initiated an incident," which included setting a fire in the housing unit and assaulting a male staff member, a Nebraska Department of Correctional Services spokeswoman said at the time. No one was seriously injured in the incident at the west Lincoln prison, and the housing unit was declared under control 1 hour and 45 minutes later, the spokeswoman said.
