North Platte Police were twice called to assist the North Platte Fire Department at a house fire Tuesday evening in the 2200 block of West Fifth Street. Just before 7:30 p.m., someone reported to Lincoln County Dispatch that they returned home to find smoke inside. Fire Marshal George Lewis said that two people live in the home. He added that one man was home, left and came back before reporting the smoke. Firefighters found a small flame on the living room floor inside, and extinguished the flames within about five minutes, Lewis said. Shortly after arriving, firefighters dispatched Lewis, then shortly after that dispatched a police officer.
