VIDEO: A woman safely escaped a house fire early Thursday morning near 24th and Ida streets. Someone passing by the house around 5:20 a.m. noticed flames coming from the house and called 911, Omaha fire officials said. When firefighters arrived, they saw flames shooting from a side window. The woman who lived there was trying to douse them with a garden hose. Crews were able to put out the fire a short while later, but it was extremely hot inside the home so they had to rotate a lot of firefighters in and around the building. The front rooms of the house have extensive fire damage, authorities said. The rest of the house has significant smoke damage and the home is unlivable.
