Firefighters battle blaze north of Mitchell

Firefighters were called to a fully engulfed fire on Monday night, at about 9:30 p.m. at County Road G and County Road 18. According to scanner traffic, a family of two adults and two children were displaced from the home. Mitchell, Scottsbluff, Scotts Bluff Rural and Morrill Fire Departments had responded to the blaze. Gering Fire Department also responded. Crews left the scene at about 2:30 a.m. Carissa Smith with Firefighter Ministry said the organization assisted Chris and Sara Miller and their son and daughter with all immediate necessities, and the family spent the night with a family member. The ministry will also assist the family with any other additional needs, including referrals for possible rental homes.
