Omaha fire crews responded to a house fire Thursday night around 7 p.m. near 39th and Burdette Streets. Everyone inside the home got out safely and no one was injured. Fire officials said they believe improperly discarded smoking materials caused the fire. Icy conditions made it difficult for crews responding to the scene. "We're on a hill, so even with chains to get to the location, after this truck for instance set its parking brake, it still wanted to slide back down the street," Omaha Fire Battalion Chief Rob McEvoy said, "So we advised the other trucks that were coming to stage further down the hill, so we didn't wreck any of our apparatus."
