The still of the night hasn’t been so still lately for the Gering Fire Department firefighters, who have been working through the night and into the morning to contain and combat a fire tearing through Colorado. Gering Fire Chief Nathan Flowers and Gering firefighters Dick Cochrane and Aaron Nab have been in Colorado since July 4, fighting the Spring Creek Fire located near La Veta and Fort Garland, Colorado. These three firefighters will soon be relieved by three other firefighters from the Gering Fire Department. “It’s a unique and challenging fire with different fuel types, from desert brushes to forested areas,” Nab said.
