Everyone inside a house in Omaha’s Regency area safely escaped a fire Sunday morning, according to fire officials. But the home and its contents sustained an estimated $65,000 in damage. Investigators determined that the fire was started by an electrical malfunction in an appliance. Firefighters were called to the home at 9762 Westchester Drive at 10:13 a.m. They discovered light smoke outside the house and heavy smoke in the basement. The fire was declared under control by 10:30 a.m. Smoke detectors inside the house were working, fire officials said.
