PHOTOS - Flames engulfed the white farmhouse as firefighters trudged through the snow attempting to put out the fire. But this wasn't a tragedy, it was training.
Ten members of the Fort Calhoun Fire Department participated in a practice burn with Bennington, Irvington and Ponca Hills fire departments Sunday at a farm along Bennington Road near the North Omaha Airport.
“What an excellent opportunity for training, especially for our new guys,” Fire Chief Dan Mallory said.
The house was no longer livable and had been donated to the Irvington department for training purposes, Mallory said.
