A serious mold problem has developed at the Groveville Fire Station, endangering the health, safety and welfare of Hamilton Fire District 9 personnel.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Hamilton Council on Tuesday evening unanimously passed a resolution authorizing an emergency appropriation for nearly $30,000 in roof repairs and mold remediation to the firehouse at 4201 Crosswicks-Hamilton Square Road.
The district, not Hamilton Council, will finance the remedial work from its surplus funds. District 9 had not foreseen the need to make emergency appropriations when it adopted its $3.55 million 2017 fire budget in January. Under state law, a fire district may make emergency appropriations after the adoption of a state-approved budget if the district is facing a public safety crisis and if the district gets permission from the municipal governing body.
