Heavy fire tore through a multistory house on Lester Street Tuesday night.
One side of the house was almost completely blackened as firefighters battled the blaze that started around 10 p.m. and went into Wednesday. Witnesses said the house was completely engulfed in flames.
"This one went up in flames like crazy," said Lisa Slamiak, who lives across the street.
Joe Slamiak said he heard someone yell that they were burnt and he appeared to be in pain.
The Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department described it as a "very serious" fire on its Facebook page.
The Lodi, Passaic, Wood-Ridge, Carlstadt, East Rutherford and Rutherford fire departments were among those to respond.
