A fire at a large house fire in Red Bank sent plumes of smoke visible for miles while firefighters worked to get the blaze under control.
The fire broke out on Rector Place in Red Bank around 8 a.m., neighbor Nick Honachefsky said. Red Bank, Middletown, and Shrewsbury fire departments were on scene.
Firefighters used ladders to knock out several windows and open the roof, he said. As of 10:40 a.m., flames were no longer visible, but “the whole block has a crazy, smoky haze all around,” Honchefsky said. The cause of the fire is unknown. Neighbors said the home was being renovated and was unoccupied.
Honachefsky, who lives on the adjacent street and was leaving his home to go fishing, checked on all his neighbors before filming the fire. Some families were evacuated from their homes, he said.
