The township’s government is moving forward with plans to build a new firehouse in the Presidential Lakes section of the township. The Township Council voted last week to enter into a $1.73 million contract with Maryland-based Modular Genius Inc. to build the new firehouse and community center building on the New York Road site of the former firehouse, which was razed in 2016 by the township due to its poor condition after the municipal government acquired the property in 2015 as part of a legal settlement with the Presidential Lakes Fire and Rescue Company. The settlement ended a protracted legal battle between the township and volunteer fire company that began in 2013 after the company refused to consolidate under the leadership of the municipal Fire Department.
