Emergency crews battled a six-alarm fire Monday night in Passaic that destroyed several businesses, fire officials said.
"We have seven, eight different stores involved," city Fire Chief Patrick Trentacost Jr. said via a Facebook live video while providing an update to the town's mayor. "We are doing our best to confine the fire to probably the three buildings closest to the main building."
At least six of the businesses were completely destroyed, the fire department said.
The fire began about 10:30 p.m. in a restaurant on Lexington Avenue between Monroe and Quincy streets, fire officials said.
No injuries were reported.
"Most of the buildings were empty," Trentacost said. "We did have to evacuate several businesses that were still open. No reported injuries at this time."
