A fire destroyed a home on Maxim Drive in the Byram Cove area of Lake Hopatcong early this morning.
The homeowner was not home. Firefighters found the home fully involved when they arrived, said Fire Chief John Wilkerson.
The fire was reported about 3:20 a.m. Police Lt. Meghan McCluskey said it was reported by two 911 calls from neighbors, one on Maxim Drive and one on Squaw Trail.
Hopatcong, Netcong, Byram and Mount Arlington Fire Departments responded. Water to fight the fire was transported from a fire hydrant about a mile from the scene via tanker trucks supplied by the Byram and Mount Arlington departments, Wilkerson said. Siding on an unoccupied home next door sustained some minor damage and the heat from the flames blew out a window in that home, causing some smoke damage to that house, he said.
