A blaze at the Jumping Brook Apartments on Route 33 and Jumping Brook Road appeared to have all but obliterated at least two second floor units Saturday.
The fire – first reported in the 3 p.m. hour – engulfed a rear section of Building 17 of Jumping Brook Apartments East. The blaze in the garden apartment complex caused a portion of the roof to collapse.
Firefighters summoned from around the region worked to extinguish the conflagration amid 21 mph wind gusts.
A statement posted Saturday evening on the Facebook page of the Neptune Township Office of Emergency Management read: “Working structure fire at Jumping Brook East Apartments, fire now under control. Multiple apartments received heavy damage, one resident treated on scene for smoke inhalation. Agencies from surrounding towns and Monmouth County on scene assisting Neptune units.”
Lisa Berenberg, 28, lives in a unit a couple doors down from where the fire was located. She was taking a nap when her roommate woke her up in a panic.
