Two firefighters were treated for minor injuries and 16 people were displaced after a three-story building caught fire Monday.
The two firefighters were taken to St. Joseph's University Medical Center for evaluation of a leg injury and neck and shoulder injury, Assistant Chief Michael Fleming said. The cause of the fire remained under investigation and it took about two hours to put out, Fleming said.
"The building's not a total loss but extensive renovations are going to be needed for the second and third floors," Fleming said.
Most of the damage appeared to be in the rear building as thick black smoke and flames shot through the roof. The fire started at about 5 p.m. "When I came the sky was black and full of flames," said neighbor Shahriyar Chowdhury.
One person on Twitter said the smoke could be seen from Route 80.
The building was across the street from Tabernacle of Praise church near the intersection with Walnut Street.
