A man who responded as a volunteer to a shed fire in Hamilton Township's Mizpah neighborhood last month has been charged with setting the blaze, police said Thursday. Matthew Hesser, 35, of Vineland, was arrested Thursday after an interview with Hamilton police detectives. He's charged with arson and felony criminal mischief for intentionally starting the Aug. 16 fire in the 1300 block of West Point Avenue, township police said. He was later released from custody with a court date. Police say Hesser made the 911 call reporting the fire at 1:10 a.m., and is a volunteer with the Mizpah Volunteer Fire Company. He responded to the call and helped put out the fire. Not exactly, Mizpah Fire Chief Jay Davenport.
