Two families are at least temporarily displaced after a fire ripped through one half of a duplex in Cherry Hill Sunday afternoon. Cherry Hill Fire Department called all hands to the fire around 12:30 p.m., at the dead end of Orchard Avenue near the Merchantville line. Assistant Fire Chief Chris Callan said it took firefighter 28 minutes to knock down the fire, which mostly affected the second and third floors on one side of the building. Callan said no one was home on the side of the duplex where the fire started, but the family that lived in the other half was home, and evacuated the house into the rainy afternoon. No one was injured. Both families will be displaced by the blaze, Callan said, including five adults and six children. One side had serious fire damage and the other side had significant smoke damage, he said. The Red Cross was called to offer assistance.
