A 62-year-old man was killed in a house fire in Burlington County on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.
Emergency responders found Ernest Opdyke in the bathroom when they entered the home on Lamont Road in Burlington Township after the fire broke out around 3 p.m, police said.
Opdyke was brought to Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County in Willingboro, where he was later pronounced dead, Lt. Jim Sullivan said. No one else was in the home when the fire started.
Property records show Opdyke is the sole owner of the one-story home.
Though the fire was brought under control at 3:42 p.m, crews remained on the scene for several more hours
The fire is not considered suspicious. Local and county fire officials are investigating to determine how and where it started. The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and Burlington Township police are also taking part in the investigation.
