A smoke-spewing fire raced through a Vineland Hills Community mobile home about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday displacing a family of three.
The residence, located off the 1300 block of North East Boulevard, sustained fire, smoke and water damage, Fire Chief Lou Tramontana told The Daily Journal at the scene. Noticing smoke inside their home, resident Michael Parker said he initially attributed it to activating the heater. The smoke spread “really fast,” said Christie Martinez, Parker’s girlfriend. She said they have a fire extinguisher, but it was on the other side of the home they’ve occupied for about a year.
To be safe, the couple evacuated, along with their child, and alerted firefighters. Martinez said she was concerned about their propane heating.
The family stood in the road watching firefighters battle the fire and kept their youngster warm inside a car.
Firefighters contacted the Red Cross to assist the family with temporary shelter and other emergency needs.
