VIDEO: President Mike Driscoll and vice president Sean Fatooh, of the Raritan Township Fire Company, delivered a presentation regarding call volume before the Raritan Township Committee April 16.
For the first quarter of 2024, the township’s call volume is up 58.2%, equating to 182 calls, as opposed to 115 calls for the first quarter of 2023.
“We are a volunteer organization, and we do what we do because we love the responsibility of protecting this community,” said Driscoll.
Driscoll explained that some of these calls include situations such as a warehouse fire, a fire at Hunterdon Medical Center, a chimney fire, mutual aid to surrounding towns for structure fires and multiple vehicle fires and wire pole fires.
“Your volunteers step up and put yourselves in harm's way to protect our community,” said Mayor Scott Sipos.
