Three residents were able to safely escape an early morning fire at their home thanks to a neighbor for alerting them, according to Bernardsville Fire Co. No. 1 & First Aid Squad. On May 8 at around 1:16 a.m. the Bernardsville Police Department and firefighters were called to Dayton Crescent on the report of a structure fire. Bernardsville Police Officers saw smoke coming from the windows of the home, said Bernardsville Police Captain Dan Buttel. Firefighters arrived within minutes and activated the first alarm after seeing fire coming from the rear of the home. The fire had also extended into the attic space, according to the fire company. At the time of the fire, three adult residents were home and were able to safely exit the residence with no injuries reported, said Buttel.
