A fire broke out in an East Mountain home Wednesday afternoon, causing extensive damage to the structure, according to the Bernalillo County Fire Department.
The house, southeast of Tijeras on Juan Tomas road, caught fire around 4:30 p.m. and fire damage caused the roof of the garage to collapse, said Larry Gallegos, a BCFD spokesman.Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze but planned to stay the night just in case, he said.
No other buildings were affected, Gallegos said. He didn’t know how many people lived in the house.
“We were on it pretty quickly,” he said. “When we have a fire like that, we put up defense pretty quickly to make sure it doesn’t spread. The winds weren’t bad out there today either.”
No injuries were reported, he said, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
